SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO — CALIFORNIA58 LOCAL. South San Francisco hosted a South City Ready preparedness workshop October 22, 2026, bringing together city public safety departments, San Mateo County emergency management and PG&E. Officials presented preparations for potentially severe winter weather.
Local reporting and context
The city says heavy rainfall coupled with King Tides may increase flood risks near Colma Creek, the Bay shoreline and low-lying eastern neighborhoods. Elevated tides are expected at times in late November, December and January, but any particular flood remains uncertain.
Fire personnel described flood and swift-water rescue readiness, while police and Public Works discussed evacuation alerts, road assessment, storm drains and sandbags. These are contingency plans, not statements that an evacuation is currently underway.
Households are advised to prepare supplies for at least three days, make a communication plan and register for SMC Alert. The city warns that its Hi-Lo siren signals immediate evacuation when used for that purpose. Never drive or walk through active floodwater.
